Dear Friends,

We built a campaign on the foundation of a very basic principle: that Atlanta’s best days still lie ahead. We believe that this city that has accomplished so much will move steadfast into a better and brighter future. As a campaign, we came close to the finish line. While we did not cross it, we brought a spirit and energy to the race that will make Atlanta better.

I am so grateful to the volunteers, the contributors, the voters and the staff of Borders for Atlanta. This was a mighty team effort. With your help, we spread a message of mission and progress for our city.

Moving forward, it will take all of us working together despite our differences in the cause of the great city that we love. As you know, I endorsed Kasim Reed for Mayor after my campaign ended and I am now honored to serve as a Co-Chairperson of his transition team. I ask each of you to think about how to get involved to our city stronger. We cannot afford to leave Atlanta’s fate to chance.

I love Atlanta, and I have been deeply gratified to be a small part of moving our city forward. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to stand with you as we write her next great chapter.

Sincerely,
Lisa Borders

Former mayoral candidate and Atlanta City Council President Lisa Borders officially endorsed former State Senator Kasim Reed for Mayor of Atlanta

Former mayoral candidate and Atlanta City Council President Lisa Borders endorsed former State Senator Kasim Reed for Mayor of Atlanta, during a press conference on Wednesday.

Borders, one of the three leading candidates in the general election, built a strong and diverse base of support throughout Atlanta during her candidacy — support deemed to be critical in the closely contested run-off election between remaining candidates Reed and Mary Norwood.

“Lisa Borders represents the best of Atlanta, and I have the deepest respect for her. Her roots run deep in this city. She is a visionary leader who has been intimately involved in moving Atlanta forward her entire life, and I was impressed with her policy ideas during our spirited campaign. Therefore, having her stand shoulder to shoulder with me will be a tremendous benefit to our campaign, and I look forward to relying on her counsel as we both work together to move Atlanta in a new direction,” said Reed.

“After many months of campaigning, it is critical for us to come together as a demonstration of strength and unity. Atlanta lies at a critical crossroads and her very future depends on leadership that can unite us and move us forward,” Borders said. “Now is the time to lay aside our differences and work in the best interest of all citizens to ensure each has the opportunity to rise to their full potential. Senator Reed’s ideas for afterschool recreation centers, his focus on public safety and his willingness to work toward increasing revenue opportunities for Atlanta are in line with my policy objectives.”

Borders and Reed have a deeply held respect for one another and share a similar and inspiring vision for the future of the city. Their unity is a welcome sign to both candidates’ supporters and the two campaigns look forward to working together for Senator Reed’s election as the 59th Mayor of Atlanta.
